Welcome

Knights,

We are ready to start a new season. We have six returns and two new players for eight total right now.

We are also changing up somethings this season. We are going to try to run a new offense. The offense is a 1-2-2 and will focus on passing, picks, and movement. It is a high side offense that focuses on ball movement on top and player movement on the bottom.

So, in a way, everyone is new. But it is important to remember that with eight, we will be playing a lot of basketball — this means that practice is important! Everyone will be expected to make practices.

If you’re going to miss practice – I need an excuse. Everyone of your team mates is counting on you to know what we are doing when we play.

Also, this Wednesday I need at lease one parent from each player to be at practice at 8:15 tonight. I have a few documents that everyone needs to sign. I also need Shirt and Short Orders ($7 – Name (Last); $8 – Shorts) which are both OPTIONAL, everyone gets a shirt.

I look forward to a great season. I’ll see everyone on Wedneday.

Fall Registration

Posted by Marc Carleno at May 26, 2010 12:57PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

To all Knights. NYS has begun Fall Registration for Basketball. The Form Online for registration still says Summer 2010.

I’ve sent an email to NYS to get the correct link for Fall. I’ll send a new message when I get that.

I will be coaching again for Basketball in Fall for 10-11 age group. I would love to have your child again.

Make sure that if you want to be on my team again, your request CARLENO as the coach.

I hope everyone has a great Summer and I hope to see many of you next Fall!

Thanks again,

Coach Marc

Well we finished our second game on Saturday and we certainly played better. We lost by 7 but considering we had 14 turn-overs we probably could have won.

I need everyones trophy order on Wednesday of this week. Medalions are $5 and we have two trophies to select from which are both $9.

See everyone on Wednesday. Also, I will be handing out a snack schedule on Wednesday.

Thanks,

Coach Marc

Paperwork

Posted by Marc Carleno at Mar 24, 2010 2:55PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

To all,

I have to have my paperwork completed tonight for all players.

All Parents must sign the League’s Injury Waivor form for their children. Children who do not have this signed will not recieve their uniform.

All Players must sign the Players Code of Conduct tonight — or no uniform for the game on Saturday.

A couple of parents still owe me uniform money that I would like to collect on.

Also, looking for someone to be the Team Parent. Any takers?

See you tonight at practice,

Coach Marc

Game Playing Time and Roster

Posted by Marc Carleno at Mar 15, 2010 4:20PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

We have an issue that has come to us because of our roster and a mix-up with the league.

Some how one of our returning players did not get posted to our team. League registration always favors returning players with a coach request before any new players even with a coach request.

This issue was not caught until late last week. By then, we had a full 10 player roster. After several meetings between myself and the league as well as several effected parents, it has been decided that we will keep an 11 player roster. Both the league and I did not feel that it was fair to remove one of our new players to another team. Especially since all 11 players requested this team and me as coach.

What does that mean? It means that we now have an exemption from the 2-quarter minimum play time set for our league. It also means that we have to look at the best way to play our team members fairly.

We could use a substitution method where I try to play all players 14.5 minutes a game (8 minute quarters). But this means that I have to try to calculate pull and play times for all 11 players.

The alternative is to have 2 players per game when we have 11 (we will have a few games where we don’t have 11) will get 1 quarter (8 minutes) of play time.

We will have 8 games schedule and it will take us 6 games to complete this 1-quarter play rotation through the team. Last season in 9 games (we had an extra one) we had 3 games where we were missing one or more players.

I also request that if you know your child will miss a game during the season you let me know as soon as possible as it will help me schedule play time for all.

I understand that this means a little less playing time for all; however, the alternative is for a volunteer to move to another team (there are a few teams with only 7 players currently). I will not ask anyone to volunteer; however, if you don’t feel this approach is fair it is your choice to move your child to another team. If you choose to do so, I would request a call prior to you making that decision. That decision should also be made this week to ensure that you get placed on a new team with time to practice before the start of the season.

Thanks,
Coach Marc
